Submission Guidelines by Genre

  • 45th Parallel seeks poetry submissions with a range of forms and content. We love work that’s lyrical, rich with imagery, and engaged in examining experience. We are particularly interested in work that experiments with formal constraints and interdisciplinary content. Please submit up to three poems, and no more than six pages total.

  • 45th Parallel is interested all types of creative nonfiction, from researched essays to memoirs to hybrid explorations. Whether traditional or experimental in form, successful submissions push against the typical bounds of the creative nonfiction genre and expand our understanding of what the essay can accomplish. We love work with crisp language, evocative imagery, and an effective blend of commentary and scene. Flash essays are welcome, as are longer pieces of up to 2,000 words.

  • The fiction editors are open to submissions of any genre and style, and are looking for works of no more than 2,000 words or 12 double-spaced pages.

  • 45th Parallel is interested in the good and the weird. We are looking for artwork of all media and styles—if you were compelled to make it, we want to see it. We accept individual pieces that can stand on their own as well as series, including comics and graphic art. Submit 1 to 5 pieces of your artwork as a single PDF or individual JPGs. For publication we will need high resolution images. On a cover page, include the number of pieces and their titles.
